Building a Monument to First Responders

Artist Blome shows rich detail that will adorn Oak Lawn Spire

Many of you have been wondering about the type of detail that will be found on the spires of the Monument. There will be small niches throughout with small scenes and imagery. Here, taken today in the artist’s studio, are details of a firefighter’s portrait in clay.

I’m astonished at how expressive and detailed it is for such a small sculpture. The helmet is constructed of wax and the head is in clay. It will fit within the small niche as shown in the photos. These are the models for the bronze casting.

I don’t know about you, but I can hardly wait to see more! I am so excited to have this quality of work in Oak Lawn.
