Hot Weather and Even Hotter Art
You wouldn’t think you could have a great time in the 100 plus degree weather that we’re having, but I did yesterday with a visit to the Oak Lawn studio of artist Erik Blome. In fact, it was the coolest afternoon I had in a long time.
With his two young sons in tow, and an artist assistant who traveled with Erik from California, it was not a quiet, contemplative atmosphere. But it was all business. Time is short, afterall. Erik is working round-the-clock to make sure that the Memorial is ready for dedication by 9/11/11.
The first spire is at the foundry being cast. The second spire is nearing completion The large pieces are being cast in a foundry in Kansas. The highly detailed pieces are being cast by Erik himself at his Crystal Lake studio.
We have come this far thanks to the support of the Community of Oak Lawn. We still have many expenses that are not funded. It’s not too late to make a donation to help support this effort! Our goal is to honor past, present and future first responders.
