Building a Monument to First Responders

Monumental Dream Team meets on site to plan final phase of construction

There was a very successful planning meeting at the site of the Oak Lawn Rotary Club’s 9/11 First Responder Memorial this morning. It was a strategy meeting to divide and conquer the tasks remaining to get the project done. Pictured here is our Monumental Dream Team: The Village of Oak Lawn, Tria Architecture, Oak Lawn Public Works, Oak Lawn Park District and Lighting Solutions of Illinois, Inc.

Each of these entities are bringing unique expertise and/or materials that are essential to completion of this monumental project.  What remains to be done is plumbing, construction of the center “bean” shaped planting bed with beams, state of the art commercial lighting, pavers, stone caps, rails and of signage.  The spirit of the meeting was happy and there was excitement to complete this Memorial so that the community can enjoy it in perpetuity.  It was great to see everyone on site again.

Excavation will occur early next week.  The guys at the Park District have spent the winter months building the wood forms for the final concrete pour of the center element.  They are ready and excited to get back to work.  Public Works Director Steve Barrett was on site to inspect the progress and lend assistance and expertise where needed.

Thanks everyone! It’s exciting to see so much dedication and passion.
