Over 160 Cyclists Converge at Patriot Station for the First Annual Historic Oak Lawn Bike Tour
When Bike Psychos and the Green Team started planning the First Annual Historic Oak Lawn Bike Tour, no one knew what to expect. Initial hopes were for 50 riders. When registration climbed to over 160 today, it was Monumental indeed!
It was a thrill that the event, focused on Oak Lawn history, kicked off from the Oak Lawn Rotary Club’s 9/11 First Responder Memorial. Your Monumental Team is very proud that this Memorial and Patriot Station has become a place for people to gather in such a positive and healthy way. The event showcased the best of Oak Lawn, and we bursting with pride that the Memorial was the starting point.
The route was approximately 9 miles, with stops along the way at historic sites. Trustee Streit spoke about the historic homes along the way. Trustee Olejniczek also rode the route. Village Clerk Jane Quinlan also stopped by to wish the riders well on her way to another event. Every rider loved the police escort – Thanks OLPD!
Just when it couldn’t get better, the Oak Lawn Green Team asked, in lieu of a registration fee, a Memorial donation or a food pantry item for the Pilgrim Faith Food Pantry. The first 100 registrants received reflective back packs, water bottles and t-shirts. Lunch and snacks were served after the ride, compliments of Fair Play (Opening this fall at the site of the old Dominick’s at 87th and Cicero.) Sponsors were CDM Smith, Bike Psychos, Complete Vision Care and Fair Play.
